Fight Kitchen Fires
- To put out a small kitchen fire, throw baking soda at the base of the flames. Do not throw baking soda at a deep pan of grease (splashing may cause severe burns).
- If the pan lid is easily accessible, cover flames to suffocate the fire. Once extinguished, don't move the pan until it has had a chance to cool. (Moving may cause it to reignite).
- Keep a fire extinguisher handy -- under the sink or in the pantry -- and make sure that everyone in your house knows how to use it.
- If you cannot control the flames, call the fire department immediately.
