Kitchen Improvements

Remodeling any room in the house is a chore, but redoing the kitchen can be especially disruptive. Used more than any other room in the house, an inviting and well-laid kitchen is instrumental in reducing stress and streamlining your life.

Luckily, there are many sites to help you on your way to a beautiful new kitchen. Whether you need wallpaper ideas or a complete floor plan, these resources can help:

  • Kitchen.net
The Center of the kitchen and bath universe. Includes evaluations of various kitchen and bath products, as well as a "sweat equity" section, which lists ideas for your redesign. Visitors can exchange ideas with other decorators and do-it-yourselfers.

  • Today's Homeowner: Kitchens
A virtual mecca of design tips and articles for making the busiest room in the house something worth coming home to. Focuses on integrating cabinets, trim, floor and wall covering and structuring the room as efficiently as possible.

  • House Beautiful Interactive Interiors: Kitchens
Design your dream kitchen in four easy steps and buy the materials you need online! This site helps you: 1) Select the products you want by manufacturer, material, pattern, color and style; 2) View your choices and put them in a folder; 3) Match the colors and patterns by laying out selections on an online color board; and 4) Decorate a room layout with the selected products.

  • The National Kitchen and Bath Association
This site, for both trade professionals and amateur kitchen designers, provides tips of the trade for making your redesign as successful as possible. This site goes step-by-step through several real kitchen designs and seeks the advice of professional designers. It's a good place to go if you are just starting out or need specific tips to finish your job.

Having trouble getting motivated? Check out Home and Garden Television's site. Several shows deal with new and remodeled kitchens, and the online tips will jumpstart your own redesign.
